The county journal, The Carmarthenshire Antiquary, formerly the Transactions, has appeared annually since 1905. It is widely acknowledged as one of the leading County History  journals in Wales.  The Antiquary is issued free to members and usually appears in November. Volumes from 1905-1977 have been indexed and hard copies are available for purchase. Neither the Transactions or The Antiquary are available online. However the Society has recently scanned all the volumes from 1941 to 2020, as searchable pdfs. These, together with a scanned copy of the Index and a summary list of contents 1941-2020 are available to purchase on a memory stick – see Shop for details. Work is well underway to scan all volumes of the Transactions , 1905-1939 in a similar way.

In common with most local and national societies volumes  of the preceding three years of issues are reserved for members. In a rolling programme digital versions will be made available on this website.

Volume 57 of The Carmarthenshire Antiquary for 2021 (PDF). Volume 58 will be similarly published on this website in January 2025.

Both the Antiquary and the Transactions are a treasure trove for anyone interested in the archaeology , history, built heritage and folklore of Carmarthenshire in particular and West Wales in general. We continue to publish new research and the Society is proud of the continuing contribution made by members as well as publishing work by young professionals  as well as distinguished academics. Though primarily an English language journal we have, and continue, to publish in Welsh. See Guidance for Contributors for anyone interested in submitting work for publication.
