The Edwardian theme of the Antiquarians' Centenary Year continued in July when they held a picnic in the grounds of Carmarthenshire County Museum in Abergwili. The lawn under the huge Cedar of Lebanon was dotted with tables and rugs, many people seeking shade under the trees while some preferred to take advantage of the glorious summer sunshine.

The President, the Revd J. Towyn Jones, travelled by landau from Carmarthen with Vice-chairman Roy Davies, Mrs Margarette Hughes and Mrs Ann Lewis. Drawn by two greys with coachman and postilion in attendance, they made an impressive scene as they were greeted at the entrance to the museum by programme secretary Jill Davies.

The President then led the way to his pavilion where he was joined by his other guests, all in Edwardian costume, while the band led by Abergwili musician Alun Williams played music from the period. After a talk on the changes the historic building has undergone by Museum Curator Gavin Evans the picnic began in earnest to lively jazz from the band.

Early members donated large collections of books and artefacts to the Society and these were the foundation of the Museum. The grounds were therefore a fitting setting for a centenary celebration by the Society and the beauty of the surroundings added a great deal to members' enjoyment.
